The images shown here represent specimens that share a combination of characters not easily keyed in either Hitchcock or the Jepson manual. Although the characters may best fit those of Calamagrostis rubescens, some features don't fit well. The glumes are somewhat long for C. rubescens, there is no pubescence on the collar and very little on the callus. In the keys mentioned above the specimens "key" easily to a dichotomy with C. rubescens and C. koelerioides. Peterson et al in Jepson suggest that C. koelerioides reaches Washington but Hitchcock (Flora of the Pac NW) stated that: "I have seen no material referable to this species from n. Oreg. or from Wash."
